Department of Information and Communication Engineering

The Department of Information and Communication Engineering (abbreviated as the Department of Information and Communication Engineering) was founded in 1999 and enrolls undergraduate students in the field of communication engineering. It is not only the earliest institution in Guizhou Province to engage in talent cultivation, scientific research, and discipline construction in this field, but also the only teaching unit in Guizhou Province that currently has a first-class master's degree program in information and communication engineering. Relying on the first level discipline of Information and Communication Engineering, covering two second level disciplines of Communication and Information Systems, Signal and Information Processing, with a master's degree program in Electronic and Communication Engineering and one joint doctoral program in Medical Information Engineering.

In recent years, the Department of Information and Communication Engineering has increased its efforts in talent introduction and training. There are currently 22 full-time teachers and 4 part-time enterprise mentors, including 8 professors, 9 associate professors, 2 doctoral supervisors, and 11 master's supervisors. There are 10 teachers with doctoral degrees, 21 teachers with master's degrees, and 1 person currently pursuing a doctoral degree. A teaching and research team with middle-aged and young people as the main body, professors and PhDs as the backbone, and a reasonable personnel structure has been formed.

For a long time, the Department of Information and Communication Engineering has focused on the forefront of the discipline and carried out high-level scientific research, resulting in a significant improvement in the overall level of the discipline. In the past five years, we have undertaken more than 60 national and provincial-level scientific research projects with a budget of 8.8713 million yuan. We have received three provincial-level and above scientific research awards, one outstanding master's supervisor in Guizhou Province, one thousand level talent in Guizhou Province, and two provincial and municipal innovative talents. Undertake 2 provincial key curriculum system construction projects, 3 provincial boutique courses, 4 provincial teaching reform projects, and more than 10 national university student innovation projects. Published 324 papers on SCI/EI, Chinese Core, etc. publicly; Published 2 academic works, with over 60 national patents and software copyrights.

The Department of Information and Communications cultivates talents at all levels in the field of information and communication, from undergraduate, master's, to doctoral levels. The undergraduate enrollment majors of the Department of Information and Communication Engineering are Communication Engineering and Electronic Information Engineering, with over 140 undergraduate students enrolled annually. The graduate enrollment majors are Information and Communication Systems and Electronic Communication Engineering, with over 70 master's students enrolled annually. The Department of Information and Communications Technology actively strengthens discipline construction, focuses on student employment, and integrates discipline development with the development of the big data industry in Guizhou Province. In response to the current situation and needs of the communication industry in our province, as well as the economic development needs of our province, it provides high-level intellectual support and high-quality services for the construction of the national big data comprehensive experimental zone and regional economic and social development. In the past 20 years, there have been over 2200 undergraduate graduates and over 600 graduate students, with an employment rate of 97.31% for undergraduate students and 100% for graduate students. These graduates have become the backbone of industries such as communication, power, and research institutes, and are highly praised by employers.

The Department of Information and Communications Technology has established undergraduate teaching laboratories such as the Experimental Platform for Enhancing the Strength of Universities in Central and Western China, communication engineering laboratories such as mobile communication, computer networks, and embedded systems, electronic information engineering laboratories, and information center basic laboratories, as well as one graduate laboratory and robot laboratory. The total laboratory area is about 1200m2, and the total value of experimental equipment is nearly 5 million yuan. It can provide good training, experimentation, and research conditions for undergraduate and graduate students.

The Department of ICT attaches great importance to the cultivation of students' innovation and entrepreneurship ability. In the past five years, undergraduate and graduate students have made outstanding achievements in various competitions. The National Gold Award in the Youth Creation National Undergraduate Entrepreneurship Plan Competition, the third prize in the Huawei Cup Postgraduate Electronic Design Competition, won the first prize in the Southwest Competition Area and the National Finals, the first prize in the Certification Cup Mathematical Modeling Network Challenge, the first prize in the National Undergraduate Mathematical Modeling Competition, the second prize in the Guizhou Competition Area of the China Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the third prize in the National Challenge Cup, the second prize in the National Undergraduate Electronic Design Competition, and the exemplary individual Pacesetter of the Communist Youth League Central Committee's Practice of Socialist Core Values, and more than 30 national, provincial and ministerial awards and honorary titles.

In recent years, with the development strategy of electronic information industry led by big data proposed by Guizhou, combined with the urgent demand for high-level talents in the national big data comprehensive experimental zone, the Department of Information and Communications Technology has seized the strategic opportunities of big poverty alleviation, big data, and big ecology in the 13th Five Year Plan of Guizhou Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government. It will shoulder the responsibility of cultivating professional talents and improving scientific research level for the country, especially the local area, and make outstanding contributions to the economic and social development and talent cultivation of Guizhou.
