The School of Big Data and Information Engineering at Guizhou University was established in 2014 on the basis of the original School of Electronic Information at Guizhou University. Its electronic discipline originated from the Electronic Physics Special Group in 1958 and has undergone more than 60 years of development. Currently, it has become an important base for cultivating high-end talents in Guizhou's electronic information and big data industry.

The college consists of the Department of Electronic Science, Department of Information and Communication Engineering, and Department of Big Data Science and Engineering, with six undergraduate majors (Electronic Science and Technology, Electronic Information Science and Technology, Communication Engineering, Internet of Things Engineering, Data Science and Big Data Technology, and Information Management and Information Systems). There are currently 102 faculty members, including 90 full-time teachers (22 professors and 28 associate professors; 57 personnel with doctoral degrees, 5 provincial experts, and 1 provincial-level teaching gold teacher); There are 2300 students on campus (600 graduate students and 1700 undergraduate students). A teaching and research team led by renowned professors has been formed, including Information Materials and Optoelectronic Devices, Integrated Circuit Design, Material Genetic Engineering and Material Big Data, Computational Intelligence and Big Data Analysis, Artificial Intelligence Technology and Applications, Advanced Communication and Intelligent Networks, Data Acquisition and Smart Home, Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, Complex Network Analysis, Hybrid Systems, and Data Acquisition Technology.

The college has one national characteristic major (Electronic Science and Technology), two national first-class majors (Electronic Science and Technology, Communication Engineering), and one provincial-level first-class major (Internet of Things Engineering); 1 provincial-level characteristic key discipline (Electronic Science and Technology), 2 provincial-level key disciplines (Microelectronics and Solid State Electronics, Information and Communication Engineering); 1 postdoctoral mobile station in Electronic Science and Technology, 1 doctoral program in Electronic Science and Technology, 2 master's programs in Electronic Science and Technology, Information and Communication Engineering, and 1 master's program in Electronic Information (including four directions: New Generation Electronic Information Technology, Communication Engineering, Integrated Circuit Engineering, and Big Data Technology and Engineering); 1 National Intelligent Manufacturing Industry Education Integration Innovation Platform and Graduate Joint Training Base, 1 Engineering Technology Research Center of the Ministry of Education (Semiconductor Power Device Reliability Engineering Research Center), 1 Provincial Key Laboratory (Micro Nano Electronics and Software Technology Key Laboratory), and 2 Guizhou Provincial Department of Education Characteristic Key Laboratories (Electronic Functional Composite Materials Characteristic Key Laboratory, System Optimization and Scientific Computing Characteristic Key Laboratory); Three provincial-level talent training bases (electronic science and communication engineering technology talent training base, big data and Internet of Things talent training base, big data talent training base), and three Guizhou Province science and technology innovation talent teams.

In 2014, the People's Government of Guizhou Province invested 60 million yuan to support the construction of the College of Big Data and Information Engineering, which significantly improved its school running strength. The College made full use of its disciplinary platform advantages, actively carried out international exchanges and cooperation, and established an academic exchange and talent training cooperation mechanism with more than 50 well-known universities and research institutes at home and abroad, including the Chinese Academy of Sciences; Actively serving the economic and social development of Guizhou, focusing on the four innovations and promoting the four modernizations, we have carried out industry university research cooperation with more than 100 enterprises and research units such as China Zhenhua Electronics Group, and actively served the three strategic actions of rural revitalization, big data, and big ecology. In the past five years, more than 160 scientific research projects have been approved, with research funding exceeding 100 million yuan. More than 610 high-level papers have been published, more than 10 monographs and textbooks have been published. More than 100 national patent authorizations have been approved, and 5 provincial-level or above awards have been obtained (including 1 special prize, 1 first prize, and 2 second prizes); Students have won over 150 awards in provincial and ministerial level subject competitions (including 1 national gold award, 20 national first prizes, and 30 national second prizes), and have published over 500 papers; We have provided over 3000 outstanding talents to various industries in society and made certain contributions to the local economic development.

A hundred boats compete for a thousand sails, riding the wind and breaking the waves is just the right time. The college will adhere to the school motto of cultivating virtue and excellence, learning extensively and practicing diligently, focus on the fundamental task of cultivating virtue and talents, base itself on the new development stage, implement the new development concept, and integrate into the new development pattern. Guided by the goal of building a Double First Class high-level university, the college will focus on connotation construction, and strive to make contributions to the high-quality development of Guizhou and the self-reliance and self-improvement of national science and technology.
