Department of Big Data Science and Engineering

The Department of Big Data Science and Engineering was established to meet the needs of the development of the big data industry, aiming to cultivate specialized talents in big data collection and processing, big data analysis, big data visualization, and other fields for the big data industry, enterprises and institutions, and scientific research institutions. There are currently 24 in-service teachers, including 21 full-time teachers and 3 experimental personnel; 3 professors and 9 associate professors; 11 people hold doctoral degrees and 2 are currently studying; Two individuals have overseas visits and study experience; 2 doctoral supervisors and 10 master's supervisors. The main research directions include computational intelligence and big data analysis, big data visualization, material big data, big data collection and processing, business intelligence, etc. In recent years, we have undertaken 3 National Natural Science Foundation projects and 7 provincial and ministerial level projects, and have published more than 50 important academic journal papers both domestically and internationally.

The Department of Big Data Science and Engineering currently has three undergraduate majors: Data Science and Big Data Technology, Internet of Things Engineering, and Information Management and Information Systems. With over 300 students enrolled, the department has undertaken 16 national college student innovation and entrepreneurship projects and 6 SRT projects at Guizhou University. The department has advanced cloud computing and big data experimental centers, IoT engineering laboratories, and robotics laboratories, creating necessary conditions for undergraduate teaching, teacher research, and external cooperation.

The Data Science and Big Data Technology major is an emerging discipline that adapts to the development of the big data industry and spans across disciplines such as electronics, communication, computer science, mathematics, statistics, and management. It is a representative major in new engineering disciplines. Require students to master the theoretical foundation of data science and be proficient in big data analysis tools; Possess theoretical knowledge and methods related to data acquisition, transmission, processing, analysis, etc., able to conduct industry big data analysis, and have preliminary ability to solve big data analysis. To cultivate specialized talents with both moral and professional abilities for the big data industry, big data related institutions, and graduate students, who are engaged in solving and conducting preliminary research on industry big data problems.

The Internet of Things Engineering major cultivates high-quality specialized talents who integrate comprehensive and harmonious development of morality, intelligence, physical fitness, and healthy personality, possess innovative spirit, practical ability, and a sense of conscience and responsibility, have a foundation in mathematics and natural science knowledge, strong professional ability and good comprehensive quality, and can work in the field of information, various sectors of the national economy, and defense industry related to Internet of Things engineering and application, big data collection and analysis. Graduates of this major are suitable for working in enterprises, government agencies, and other departments to engage in technology development and management related to the Internet of Things and computers, or pursuing master's degrees in related disciplines such as the Internet of Things and computers, or engaging in teaching and research work in related disciplines.

The Information Management and Information Systems major is a practical and innovative field that integrates information technology and management science. Require students to have a good foundation in mathematics and physics, knowledge and application abilities in information management and information technology; Having certain practical and research abilities in the development and utilization of information systems and resources; Master the methods and techniques for planning, analyzing, designing, implementing, and managing information systems; Be able to apply big data methods and technologies to research and develop information management systems, understand the application of big data in natural sciences and social sciences, and have corresponding practical abilities. To cultivate high-quality specialized talents for positions related to information management and analysis, big data technology research and development, application and system design, and further education.
